On the Wings of Icarus
This STEM activity is a solo project for each student to try to experiment to find a set of wings to help a paper Icarus fly the farthest. They learn how to solve a problem using the Problem Based Learning Method, using a mind map to start with the base of the problem and doodle, take notes, and scrawl their thoughts outward to reach a solution. All the materials should be the same or similar to common classroom materials, though feel free to add or subtract more supplies.
This activity could be split into multiple days if necessary, but was not required to in my particular case. The goal is not perfection, but experimentation! Thus, a shorter building time limit helps to stop from frustration or burn-out.
